Class 3 2020 - 2021
I welcome you and your child back to Highfields and to life in Key Stage 2. It has been a strange time and things are a little bit different in school at the moment but children adapt quickly and they will soon be used to the new routine and it will all soon feel very normal.
The biggest change to the children’s routine is the amount of times they wash their hands. They will need to do this when they first enter the building in the morning, before and after break and lunch, and when they leave at the end of the day.
On a daily basis, I would recommend the children bring in a coat (in case it rains), a lunch box (if you are not having a school lunch) and a water bottle. I have provided all the children a pencil case with all their required stationery.
Some dates and information for your diary:
15th October – Academy Individual photos
25th October – Last day of half-term
2nd November – First day back
This half-term, the children will be studying two fiction books; ‘Stone Age Boy’ and ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. They will be writing stories based on the same structure as these books.
The children will be looking at identifying numbers up to 1000, finding place value of up to 3 digit numbers, finding 10 or 100 more of less than a given number and counting from 0 in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100. They will then move on to adding and subtracting, focusing on adding a three-digit number and multiples of one, a three-digit number and multiples of ten, and a three digit number and multiples of a hundred.
In Science, the children will be learning about soils and rocks. This will include learning about erupting volcanoes, testing hardness of rock samples and understanding the fossilisation process. The children will also receive a three week science homework project based on the subject.
The children will be learning about the Stone Age and looking at how life changed for the people when they moved into the Iron Age.
For the first few weeks of this half-term, PE will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. The children will be learning about the skills of hockey and building up their general fitness through cross country runs. Please could the children come in their outdoor PE kits for both lessons.
On Wednesday mornings, Mrs Hayes will be taking the class for French and RE lessons.
Both Literacy and Numeracy homework will be sent home on Fridays to be returned back by Wednesday the following week.
I am really looking forward to this year and I hope your children enjoy their learning experiences in Year 3. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at email@example.com.
