Class 3 2018 - 2019

Mr Fowler

Welcome to the very last half-term of Year 3. The school year has flown by and I can’t believe I’ll be waving off your children to a new class in eight weeks’ time. From my time teaching your children, I will take away lots of great memories and hopefully they will take away one or two happy memories from my time with them.

Forthcoming Events (all in school time unless stated):

21st June – Sports Day (Year 3 will start from 1:30)

27th June – Class Academy Photos

11th July – Roman Trip to Chester

15th July – Last Swimming Lesson

22nd July – Open Afternoon

25th July – Last Day in School

For the first part of this half-term, the children will be creating a brochure based on the books of Harry Potter and Harry Potter World. The second half, the children will be learning about adventure stories and, in particular, Dick King Smith’s ‘The Hodgeheg’.

Over the next few weeks, the children will be covering numerous parts of the curriculum in order for them to reach their end of year target. One area we will be covering is Time as all Year 3 children are expected to tell the time to the minute.

In Science, the children will learn about Light. They will identify what makes a light source and discuss the Sun. They will establish that light is reflected off things that we see and that darkness is an absence of light. They will have a go at making sundials and making enquiries on how shadows are formed.

All Monday PE lessons will be focussed on swimming. In Year 3, normally the children would have received 12 half hour lessons. However, with inset days and holidays this has not been possible. Therefore to make up for this time, I have organised for the last three sessions to be an hour long.

The other PE lesson will take place on Thursdays and will be focussed on getting the children ready for sports day and, for those selected, Town Sports. As the majority of the lessons will be outside, please can children bring outdoor trainers and water bottles.

Finally I would like to thank you all for your help and support you have given over the last year. Educating a child is a team effort between school and parents and I’ve enjoyed being part of the team. Your children are fantastic and I will miss teaching them.
