19th December – Year 3&4 Christmas party (party clothes)

20th December – Last day of term

6th January – Return to school

This half-term, the children will be continuing to study ‘Stone Age Boy’ and writing a story based on the same structure as the book. Then the children will be looking at different types of poetry and writing their own. Finally the children will be looking at the book ‘Dear Father Christmas’. They will be looking at how to structure a letter correctly, a letter’s layout and finally writing a letter to Father Christmas to explain if they have been naughty or nice this year.

The children will be spending the first few weeks learning about addition and subtraction, with particular focus on the column method. They will then move on to multiplication and division concentrating on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

In Science, the children will learn about food groups and healthy balanced diets. They will be studying the human digestive system and how food is transported around the body, investigating skeletons and looking closely at bones, joints and muscles and comparing it with animal skeletons.

The children will be studying life in Nantwich and what the human and physical features are of the town they live in.

Forest Schools

For this half-term, the children will participate in Forest Schools. This is an activity that is carried out in the school grounds. The children will ideally need old, warm clothes to be brought in for every Wednesday.

Due to Forest Schools, for this half-term only, the children will only receive one PE lesson per week. This will take place on Fridays. The children will need trainers and warm clothes as a lot of the activities will be outdoors.

The children will continue to learn about coding using an application called Scratch Junior, on the Ipads. This is a free programme and can be downloaded at home, if the children want to continue their learning outside of school.

Both Literacy and Numeracy homework will continue to be sent home on Fridays and returned back by Wednesday the following week. Spellings, which do not need to be handed in, will be handed out on the Tuesday ready for the test on the following Monday. If your child misplaces their spelling sheet, you will find it on the school website from the Wednesday ready for you to download.

If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to come in and see me.
