Class 3 2020 - 2021
Welcome back to the last term of the year. I hope you and the children really enjoyed your Easter holidays and hopefully we will all have a quiet half-term!
Joining me, in class, this half-term will be Mrs Whitfield. She is very enthusiastic and is really looking forward to working with the children.
Some dates for your diary:
3rd May – May Day Bank Holiday
12th May – Class photos
Thursday 27th May – Last day of half-term
Tuesday 8th June – Return back to school
This half-term, the children will be learning about myths and legends, and in particular they will be studying King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. With Mrs Whitfield, the children will be looking at the book Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis.
The main focus of this half-term is fractions including ordering fractions, finding out equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions. The children will then go on to learn about angles, and perpendicular and parallel lines.
In Science, the children will learn about Light. They will identify what makes a light source and discuss the Sun. They will establish that light is reflected off things that we see and that darkness is an absence of light. They will also make investigate on how shadows are formed.
Every Friday PE lessons will be focussed on athletics. I will be trying to get the children outside as much as possible so please can they bring outdoor trainers, sun hats, water bottles and a hoodie/tracksuit top (in case it gets cold).
For this half-term. the class will be taking part every Wednesday afternoon with a Forest School activity. The children can come to school in their Forest School clothing. Miss Garner has recommended that the children layer up and that their tops should be long sleeved and trousers worn to avoid scratches. For those warmer days, I am happy for the children to come in shorts and t-shirt, however they need to bring in long sleeved tops and trousers with them to get changed into. For sunny days, please can the children also bring in sun hats and suntan lotion (the children can only use their own sun tan lotion and must be able to put on their own lotion).
For their topic work the children will first continue to be looking at Europe and its countries. They will then go on to look at Italy; its physical geography, its culture and its landmarks.
For the first few weeks of this term, the children will have a special Literacy project about King Arthur. A leaflet will be coming out soon about it.
If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to come in and see me.
