Class 1 2020 - 2021

Mrs Hughes

Mrs Bradley

Year 1 ( Autumn half term 2 )

I hope that you have had a good week and have had time to relax and spend time together after a fantastic first half-term in Year One! I am very proud of every single one of you and how you have adapted to your new class. You have all worked so hard and I cannot wait to see you again!

For the first couple of weeks this half term, we will complete our work on Autumn and learn about Poppy Day. Then, as it is definitely getting colder, we will change our focus to Winter and Christmas.

We are lucky this half term to have Forest School with Miss Garner on Wednesday afternoons which will reinforce our work on the seasons and the different celebrations that take place at this time of year. Forest School will take place outside whatever the weather so please could you wear warm clothes on these days like leggings, trousers or jumpers that you don’t mind getting dirty as well as a waterproof coat and appropriate footwear. I would maybe suggest two pairs of socks if it gets even colder!

In Literacy, we will be using “Snowball” by Sue Hendra and continue to work on forming our letters correctly and sitting them on the lines with tails hanging below. We will be developing our understanding of sentences and reading back our writing to check that it makes sense. We will also be stretching out words and using our phonics sounds to help spell.

Our Science lessons will be based around the theme of Ourselves and our senses. In Topic lessons, we will look at the polar regions where you-know who lives! In Art, we will be learning about colour mixing to create some seasonal masterpieces!

Our Numeracy lessons will focus on addition and subtraction, and as before I will send home games or provide links to on-line apps to reinforce our classwork. Thank you for uploading your homework on to Tapestry. It really is lovely to share in your learning!  Please make sure you can access Tapestry as this is the platform we are using in Key Stage 1 for home learning as well as how we would set work if you are isolating or there are future school closures. Homework as before will be set on Fridays and is due to be uploaded on Tapestry by Wednesday of the following week.

PE this half-term will be on Tuesdays. Please come into school in PE kits on Tuesdays as we are still not getting changed at school. I will be continuing to develop the children’s co-ordination and spatial awareness through multi-skills but maybe extend this with equipment such as footballs or hockey sticks. The children will require trainers for all PE lessons this half term. Please could you ensure that all uniform is labelled and checked regularly and be aware that for health and safety reasons, earrings must be removed or covered during PE lessons.

Thank you for reading at home and working hard with your keyring words if you have them. You are all doing so well! It is very important that you continue to read regularly at home to help you read more smoothly and recognise words by sight quickly. Little and often is best! Listening to stories and talking about them is also fantastic to develop your love for books and snuggle up together at the end of a busy day!

I look forward to another wonderful half-term working with you!

 Kind regards,

Mrs Bradley
