Class 2 2020 - 2021

Miss Addis

Welcome back!

I hope you all had wonderful Christmas and a made lots of new memories. I am looking forward to hearing all about your Christmas break. Thank you so much for your thoughtful gifts. I was overwhelmed when I opened them.

Below, I have included some key information regarding this next half term in year 2;

Numeracy lessons will be based on broadening our knowledge of Measurement and Money, Multiplication and Division, then Properties of Shapes. We will first be looking at counting money, recognising the different coins, pounds and notes and making the same amounts but using different coins/pounds/notes. We will then move onto finding the total and the different between of amounts, giving change and moving onto 2 step worded problems. Within our Multiplication and Division learning, we will be reinforcing our learning of the 2,5 and 10 times tables, using the X and ÷ symbols and understanding their meaning.  In year 2, we are aiming to keep Numeracy practical and engaging, so in some weeks I may send home numeracy games for homework.

In Literacy, we will start our new book, The Bear and Piano. This is one of my favourite books, I am sure the children will enjoy the much as much as I do.

In Topic lessons, will become more familiar with the surroundings of London. We have done some work already on the city. However, now we will be going back in time developing our history skills looking at the Great Fire of London. Within this topic, we will be completing some exciting Design and Technology work creating our own moving vehicle. At a later date, I will be sending a letter out asking for donations of boxes to create our vehicles.

PE this half term will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays. Like the previous term, please come into school dressed in your PE kit.

Mrs Walker will cover Year 2 on Thursday afternoons whilst Miss Addis has her PPA time. She will be teaching the children Science and RE.

Homework will be uploaded to Tapestry on Friday and expected to be completed and by the following Wednesday.

It is very important that the children continue to read regularly at home, as this builds up their fluency and will continue to build on their comprehension skills. Please remember to record any reading completed at home in your child/children’s reading diary.  To develop your child/children’s thirst for books, reading to your child and discussing stories develops their range of vocabulary and their love for books.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask. Please send me an email at

Kind Regards,

Miss Addis
