Year 1 over the last few weeks

Date: 2nd Oct 2016 @ 1:31pm

The past couple of weeks have been very busy in Year 1. We have had exciting trips out, visits from interesting guests and a lot of fun lessons.

Last Tuesday, we visited the bookshop in Nantwich. There we got to here some new stories and join Isac the hedgehog on his adventures in the forest. We then had the chance to make our own Isac's using pine cones. We had a great time!

Since our last blog we have had 2 more forest school sessions. We love getting the chance to go outside and learn some new skills. We have lit campfires, made fairy houses and even learnt how we get wind! We can't wait to see what we do next week.

Last Friday, we had a gladiator visit school. Some parents might remember Ace from the TV show. He came in dressed as a Roman Gladiator. He told us all about his life, the life of Roman gladiators and a little bit about Christianity. Then 2 children got the dress up in sumo suits and play a game. It looked like a lot of fun.

This past week we have been learning about forests from around the world. We learnt about the Amazon Rainforest in South America, and had a go at making our own tree houses out of twigs and leaves. We also learnt about the oldest tree in the world, that can be found in mountains in North America. We had a go at creating our own picture of this tree using pastels and blow painting.

In Science, we are learning about the world of animals and their habitats. We went and observed some wood lice in their natural habitat then recreated some mini habitats so we could investigate their likes and dislikes.

I wonder what we will be doing next week?
